Figure Skating

Testing

Testing in figure skating is essential because it provides a structured way to assess a skater's progress, skill development, and readiness for competition. Through testing, skaters can demonstrate mastery of specific elements, such as jumps, spins, and footwork, which ensures they have a solid foundation before advancing to more difficult routines. It also builds confidence, motivates improvement, and gives coaches valuable feedback to tailor training. Additionally, passing tests can open doors to higher levels of competition and opportunities in the sport.

In-Person Testing

  • Applications to test on an SBFSC test session must be received by the test chair by the Application Deadline listed for the session and must be submitted online via EntryEeze. Note that requests from coaches are not considered to be an application.

  • Any skater wishing to test must be a member in good standing with the club – unpaid test fees, club ice charges, etc can affect this status.

  • SBFSC skaters requesting permission to test at a test session not sponsored by SBFSC must make that request at least 7 days prior to the test. It is the skater’s responsibility to contact the test chair Sharon Brilliantine for this permission.

  • After a test session application has been submitted online successfully, an email confirmation will be sent to the parent and coach. Completed applications will be scheduled on a first come, first serve basis with preference given to home club members.

  • Skaters and coaches will receive notice of the schedule at least two (2) days prior to the test via email and the schedule will be posted at the rink.

  • Once the test schedule is posted, skaters will be charged for the test unless the Test Chair is notified prior to the day of the test.

Test session fees are discounted for members of Silver Blades and other Midwest Figure Skating Council member clubs.

On the day of the test, skaters should:

  • arrive at least 45 minutes prior to the start of the test session

  • plan to pay their test session fees by cash or check.

  • notify the test chair that they are present and ready to test.

  • check the schedule for changes and be prepared to test either before or after the scheduled time.

It is the coach’s responsibility to educate their skaters regarding proper conduct at a test session. Any problems occurring during a test session should be brought to the immediate attention of the Test Chair.

If you have any questions regarding SBFSC testing, please contact SBFSC club test chair, Sharon Brilliantine.

Virtual Testing

SBFSC will host monthly virtual test sessions. Videos and paperwork must be received in EntryEeze by the posted deadline.

Please follow the video instructions below – videos not meeting these criteria will not be accepted. Results will be returned within 10 days of the submission date. There are no refunds for virtual tests.

  • A Test Placard, evidence of date and time must be recorded in the video for the submission to be valid.

  • Videos should be horizontal

  • the entire person or persons must be visible throughout the test.

  • There may not be more than eight (8) other skaters on the ice during a skater’s test. Even if eight (8) skaters or less are on the ice, the video must not be submitted if any skater disrupts the testing skater or prevents the testing skater from being the focus of the video.

  • If the video is questionable, it is probably best to not submit it. Please refer to the Virtual Testing Video Requirements below for detailed instructions on recording and for USFS rules on virtual testing.
