Bonnie Williamson
JUDGING ACHIEVEMENTS:
Qualifying Competition Judge for Singles/Pairs; Certified 6.0 Competition Judge for Dance; Gold Test Judge for Singles, Skating Skills and Pairs, Silver Test Judge for Figures, Pre-Silver Test Judge for Dance
Bonnie Williamson’s journey into figure skating judging began with casual conversations with parents at competitions about the rules of the sport. Intrigued by the nuances of scoring and advancement, she took it upon herself to order a rulebook and dive into learning the regulations and levels of competition. Her curiosity soon turned into a passion for understanding the path skaters take to progress in the sport.
Bonnie’s aspirations were encouraged by Ann Hannah, a respected judge from St. Joseph, who actively mentored those interested in becoming officials. Ann took Bonnie under her wing, guiding her through test sessions and providing invaluable training opportunities. Bonnie attended as many test sessions as possible to gain experience, even when the limited spots for trial judges were already filled at a test session. She often traveled long distances—from Michigan to Omaha, Kansas City to St. Louis, and even as far as Detroit, Delaware, and the Washington, D.C. area—to observe and refine her judging standards across different regions.

Her dedication to judging was all the more impressive as she balanced it with supporting her children, Ben and Kate, in their own competitive Ice Dance careers. Due to frequent conflicts with their events, Bonnie was slower to receive Dance appointments, but her persistence never wavered.

Through dedication, mentorship, and a commitment to excellence, Bonnie Williamson has developed into a well-rounded and experienced figure skating judge, shaping the sport she once sought to simply understand.
