The SILVER BLADES FIGURE SKATING CLUB is one of the oldest clubs operating within the ranks of the United States Figure Skating Association. Established on July 25, 1935, the club has been proudly represented by many national competitors.

Through the forties and fifties the club moved as the ice landscape changed around the Kansas City area. In 1966, the King Louie bowling alley expanded its facility by adding an ice rink. It was then that the Silver Blades became formally entrenched in its brand new home, the Ice Chateau. For 24 years, Silver Blades FSC proudly called the skating rink with the bowling alley, home. It was here where the Heart of America competition, (the oldest one in the Midwest), was born.
The new millennium brought new and exciting opportunities for the Silver Blades FSC, who moved into its new home, Pepsi Ice Midwest. Unfortunately, in early 2011, Ice Midwest rebranded as an indoor basketball facility, forcing the figure skaters and hockey teams there to look for a new place to train. Following this closure, Silver Blades FSC partnered with the Kansas City FSC to share the Kansas City Ice Center. In October 2024, the AdventHealth Sports Park at Bluhawk opened it's doors in south Johnson County and welcomed Silver Blades FSC as the exclusive Figure Skating Club.
The mission and purpose of the Silver Blades Figure Skating Club of Kansas City is to be a leader in the sport and the art of figure skating by challenging each member to achieve one’s highest potential and personal goals. We will accomplish this by:
-
Providing a safe, supportive environment for competitive training and excellence.
-
Cultivating an atmosphere of mutual respect and social interaction, while promoting good sportsmanship, positive role models, and lasting friendships both on and off the ice.
-
Inspiring strong qualities of discipline, self confidence, and poise that will continue throughout a member’s life.
-
Promoting opportunities for community service, leadership, and mentoring of younger members.

The Silver Blades Figure Skating Club of Kansas City is committed to this mission while also carrying out the general policies and objectives of United States Figure Skating Association and promoting the sport of figure skating in our community.
